The big turkey meal is out of the way and the family get together has been survived as the holiday weekend winds down. For the most part things went pretty well with just one little set back noted. And that set back changes, no I should say delays my immediate plans. Set back being the buyers we had for the house have now backed out of the deal, so my move will not happen as quick as planned. Oh well, what's life without a few ripples now and then.
Out of the four days I've been off today's been the most boring, almost crawl out of my skin boring. It's been to chilly for me to even consider getting out and doing anything, so I've been kinda trapped in the house today. In an effort to stave off the boredom I decided to create some images from a pic I had already taken. The first pic below is the one I used to create the images.
Well time to start getting things ready to go back to work. Hope everyone had a good weekend. That's it for now. Later.
Three day weekends are great, but they do have a draw back. And that is when Monday does finally come around it sure is harder to go back to work. Today was like that, especially since today was a typical Monday. And we all know typical Mondays suck. Good thing is, this day is over and it's time to go out and make the rest of the week the best it can be.
I spent this weekend sorting my things out, which will get shipped, which will go with me and the things that weren't lucky enough to make the trip. And I must say so far most of it has fallen into the third category. I can't believe how much "stuff" I had gathered over the years. I kept looking at things with the same question seeming to always pop up, which was....Why on earth did I keep this?? I got most of it done, but there is still a little more to do. By the way have I ever mentioned that I hate packing. But it's one of those things you just have to suck it up and do. I mean how the hell can you make a move without packing, right. That's it for now. Later.
I've got a feeling it won't be long before these kinda days will be upon us again. Hopefully I will be in the Valley of the Sun by then.
We've finished the pharmacy remodel and have now moved up to start the remodeling of the third floor. This project will be about four times the size of the pharmacy. Actually this is more like a total rebuilding of the third floor rather then a remodeling. Everything has been removed from ceiling to floor including all the walls. Right now the entire floor looks like one big room, so when we are through they will basically have a brand new women's health center.
A couple of days ago while we were putting the final touches on the pharmacy they were giving the workers a tour of the new facilities. While they were looking at the windows where you hand out the prescriptions I overheard one of the workers say she was glad to see the counters were wider so that now these sick people won't be so close to her and be coughing on her. I remember thinking to myself, uh hello, every job comes with it's own set of risks. And one of the risks with this particular job was having sick people be near and possibly coughing. I mean if you work in a hospital, an institution that caters to sick people, then well it only stands to reason you are going to encounter sick people. Hell it's a risk that even I as a construction worker must accept when working in a hospital. And if they can't handle it maybe it's time they moved on. Isn't it amazing how insensitive some people can be. That's it for now. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Later.
Update on how the sale of the house is going. The offer has been made and accepted and contracts are signed. Now it's a matter of waiting for all the various inspections to take place. One of which is the VA inspection which I hear can be a stickler. We've already been making a few minor repairs of things found from some of these inspection. Final word though is that all in all it still looks as though the closing will go on as scheduled around the 15th of December. That means I should hit the road around the 12th or so for that 1200 mile trip to Arizona. One thing I need to get is another memory card for my cam so I can take plenty of pic's along the way. End of update, more as it unfolds. That's it for now. Later.
What a weekend. It went from busy, to having some fun, to a laid back day. Started out on Friday busy hanging some drywall, that is when I wasn't trying to slice off my finger with the utility knife. Damn razor blades are sharp now. Not to worry though, t'was just a minor cut, no stitches needed.
Saturday I had to go to my cousin's wedding, which was ok as far as weddings go. Now the reception on the other hand was party time. As seen by the pic's below, looks like most were having a good time. Today was spent kicked back and relaxing with a little football on the TV. Only down fall was the damn Chiefs went and found another way to give the game away. Oh well, that's the way it goes. And how was your weekend??
I'd like to join in with the rest of the nation in saying thanks to the veterans past and present, on this veterans day. We remember those who served our country in good times and bad. In light of the times we are in right now we have more reasons to stop and remember. We remember the 1000 plus who have made the ultimate sacrifice, it's easy because they are the ones who receive the attention in the news (and rightfully so), they are hero's one and all. But we also need to remember the ones who a lot of times escape our notice, those many thousands who served and returned wounded from battle. We need to remember, honor and help whenever possible these brave soldiers, sailors and airmen who served and returned with their lives turned inside out.
Ode To A Wounded Soldier
He left right handed and returned a lefty. He left in full stride and returned home to learn how to walk again. He left vibrant and full of life, and returned with a with a far away stare in his eyes. He asked nothing when he left and he asks little when he returns. He went to defend our way of life, and if asked..... he would do it all over again!!!
So I will end this post saying once again I send out a big THANK YOU to the Veterans each and every one of them. That's it for now. Later.
Today went pretty good despite how it started. To begin with I was running a little behind schedule when I left the house headed for the hospital o the army base here. To make matters worse unbeknownst to me I must have had that terrorist look about me this morning, because I ended up having my car searched at the entrance gate to the army base. Remember now I was already running behind so yeah , this didn't help. I was lucky though and it didn't take all that long and I still made it to work on time. What a way to start the day. Thankfully the rest of the day went off without a hitch.
Here are a couple more pic's I took the other day. The first is a flock of Wild Turkeys moving across a field. Hmmm funny, and I thought Wild Turkey came in a bottle hehe. Come to think of it these Turkeys better watch it seeings how it's awfully close to Thanksgiving and all.
One of the more popular sports in this part of the country is hunting. Especially this time of the year with all the hunting seasons either open or getting ready to open. As for myself I have never been much of a fan of hunting, therefore this little hunters tale is not mine. Instead it is one I over heard in the barber shop the other day while I was getting a haircut. One of the biggest hunting seasons around here is deer season, which is about to open soon. Anyway the barber struck up a conversation with one of the men waiting to get a haircut and the talk soon turned to hunting. The barber asked this man if he intended to go deer hunting this year. The man not only answered that yes he was indeed going deer hunting but that he knew that he would be guaranteed of getting a deer. Not only would he get a deer but he would do so minutes after the deer season opened. The barber then asked the man how he was so sure of this. The man answered simple, I have been feeding these deer in the same spot for about a year now and they will be standing there waiting for the food on the day the season opens and he'll nab one of the unsuspecting deer then. And he added it was all legal. I just kind of sat there dumbfounded and shook my head, thinking to myself where in the hell is the sport in that. Shit it would be like planning to go on a wild animal safari at the local zoo. Sometimes I just don't understand the people around me.
I got out and took a nice relaxing little drive through the countryside yesterday evening just before the sun went down. Below are a few of the pic's I managed to take during said drive. That's it for now, I'm off to do some catching up on some blog reading. Later.
Good news came our way two days ago. We got an offer on the house YAY!!! And since it was only $900 below what we were asking we not only accepted it we jumped all over it. So it looks as though my move will be taking place around the first of next month. So now comes the next chore of going through my personal stuff and deciding what I want to keep and what to get rid of. I intend on traveling light which means reducing my life down to a car load. That ought to be fun.
Now that I have an idea of when I'll be moving I should be overly excited, and well I am. Still I'm getting these jittery feelings, kinda like having second thoughts. I know that it is just realizing I'm leaving the security and things I've become accustomed to in this small rural area and trading this for the mysterious unknown of the big city I'll be moving to. Then it dawns on me that I'm really getting nowhere here and it's time to jump off in the deep end and either sink or swim. And yeah it won't be easy, in fact it'll probably be down right scary but It's something I know I've got to do. I hope everyone has a fun and exciting weekend. That's it for now. Later.
So yesterday was the big day most had been waitiing on in this country, election day. After getting off work I headed to the polls and cast my vote. I then went home ate some supper and settled in with the tv on to await the results of the election. And I waited, and I waited and I waited, in fact I waited far longer then I should have. It was about two in the morning when I finally decided I better get to bed and the results were still not in. Needless to say I was dragging a little at work today. One thing is for sure, I'll be in bed long before 2am tonight.
I'm not going to say who I voted for but let's just say my guy wasn't on the winning team. Opps I guess I told you after all. So yeah I wasn't very thrilled with the outcome, but hey, that life. It can't always go the way we want it to. Just hope the country doesn't live to regret it choice and I'll leave it at that for now. That's it for now. Later.
I am somewhat of a gambler although not what you would call a compulsive or addicted type. I have been known to enjoy a trip to the casino every now and then, but lately it's been mostly then. In fact I haven't been to a casino since I got back from a vacation to Las Vegas about two years ago. So now a days my gambling is limited to spending a dollar or two on powerball or the Kansas Lotto. In keeping with that I bought one dollors worth of powerball and the Kansas lotto Saturday night. So on Sunday morning I went on-line to check the numbers. I checked powerball first and out of the six numbers on my ticket not a one matched, which I must ay is not out of the ordinary. So I pulled up the Kansas lotto site to see what the numbers were. The first number I had. The second number also was on my ticket as was the third number. To say the least my interest as well as excitement level was rapidly on the rise. Onto the forth number of which was not to be found on my ticket. OK, so I'm not going to win the big jackpot but the chance is still there for something good I figured. So I check the fifth and sixth numbers, the fifth one was on my ticket but not the sixth. Still I'm jumping for joy, I mean after all I got four out of the six numbers drawn. At the moment I didn't know what I had won, but hey, four out of six numbers matched it had to be good. So all excited I head to the store to see what my fortune was to be and collect it. At the store they have one of those machines that will scan your ticket and let you know what you've won. So I stuck my ticket in to see what I was getting and you can imagine my dismay when up on the screen popped the amount of a whole whopping twenty-five dollars. Boy, talk about a deflating experience. But you know twenty-five dollars is better then nothing. Damn, sure am glad I didn't call the boss and quit my job.
